5th Contemporary Art Biennial

The central concept of the graphics, the open hand, refers to the principal tool to create and manipulate objects as well as the number five that marks this edition. The hand is a work tool, a numerical reference and also a medium –the call date is handwritten on the palm–, consistent with the theme of the Biennale: Corpus Solus.

The open hand is reproduced on the catalogue’s cover with tactile resources: the matte finish contrasts with the high gloss of the background and blind embossed effect for the hand’s lines. It also serves as the protagonist for the catalogue covers: embracing the publication and “playing” with the logos of participating institutions.

The layout of the catalogue is very direct and with high contrasts, aimed at the best readability for the visually impaired.
